In past symposium presentations I have addressed insulin metabolism in relationship meal timing, with emphasis on intermittent fasting. In addition, I have discussed fluid and electrolyte metabolism as it relates to low grade chronic metabolic acidosis with
emphasis on potassium and magnesium optimization. In this presentation I will present a review of current published literature that addresses the intriguing relationship between the two – the impact of acid/alkaline balance on insulin metabolism. This literature makes it clear that dietary regulation of insulin metabolism is more than just a matter of meal timing and the creation of optimal carbohydrate/protein/lipid ratios. A diet high in acid-ash, refined foods will also have a profound adverse effect on insulin metabolism.
